Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens

Hare fixes the family’s problems with trickery.  He tricks the lazy rich Bear into giving him the best parts of the plants.  Tops & Bottoms shows how wits can overcome hardship and resembles an American slave tale. When Hare has bad luck he turns it around with a clever deal he makes with the rich lazy bear who lives down the road.
